Kernewek Bew

Bringing the Cornish language to life

About Kernewek Bew

Ever thought about the Cornish language and wondered what it sounds like? Once almost extinct, Cornish is now thriving. This website celebrates all versions of Cornish with a growing collection of audio and visual footage as well as links to a wealth of interesting Cornish language sites. We have rediscovered old videos and have brought them to life in the digital world. There are many contributions of dramatic audio pieces from Cornish speakers included in these pages.

If you feel inspired by what you find here and would like to know more about courses in Kernewek (the Cornish language), below is a selection of websites full of information about where to start a course, which social groups meet to learn Cornish and where to go for written resources.

We have teachers  for every level, from absolute beginners right through to advanced. We prepare students for the WJEC assessments and the exams of Kesva an Taves Kernewek (The Cornish Language Board) if they wish, though these are certainly not obligatory. All our tutors teach using the Standard Written Form (SWF) of the language, the official form as taught in schools and used in public life. Do contact us if you are interested in these or other classes.
